Love Under Apartheid

love under apartheid

Just in time for Valentine’s Day, I am very pleased to be contributing in a small way to a very cool and important project which debuts today. The image above is being used by Love Under Apartheid, a place where Palestinians tell their stories of how Israeli policies of separation have affected them and their families . Keep reading to see the bittersweet tragicomic introductory video for the project…

Adalah-NY Songbook

boycott, divest, sing!

I put together a songbook for Adalah-NY, including some of my illustrations, for the upcoming round of conferences. You can download a readable PDF of the songbook here and a print-formatted one here.

Oooh! “Why Do I Boycott” In Color!

One of my most widely-seen comics at this point is “Why Do I Boycott Israel,” created for Peter Kuper’s class at SVA but used broadly as a flyer by the Boycott, Divest, & Sanctions movement. Now, thanks to Adalah-NY, I have had the opportunity to color this comic and print it in color. After the jump, the complete color comic!

american tear gas

The Occupy Wall Street Global Justice working group is focused on building stronger solidarity within OWS and NYC for international struggles for democracy. New Year, New Comics

Hi internet friends. Sorry to have let this site lapse quiet for a week after my resolution to post new content every day. In case you haven’t seen it, I have a new monthly comics series that debuted in December at Mondoweiss, where I will be interviewing Palestinian artists. I am very excited about it! Here is a link to the first installment, with painter Samia Halaby:

More stuff coming! Check back later this week, including some color!

BDS March

I designed this cover for the program and songbook of Adalah-NY’s inaugural BDS march through lower Manhattan, on the 5th anniversary of the BDS call from Palestine.

Arlequin Sketches

A page from a sketchbook from over 2 years ago. I am mildly obsessed with the commedia dell ‘arte characters and have often thought they would make a good comic. This is a sketch of Harlequin, Arlechinno, jumping around the page. Colored with watercolor.

Santa Gets Foreclosed

Another sketch for a job I didn’t get, designing the holiday card for Neighbors Helping Neighbors. Ah me, again, I thought it was funny….

Woman With A Chicken

Once, I was asked to do a number of sketches illustrating the idea of a woman’s companionship with a chicken. These were rough sketches to try out for a job. They also represent some of my earliest attempts at coloring on a computer. I didn’t get the job, but I always thought these were funny drawings, or at least the basis for funny drawings to come.

Three more after the jump!
